Housing Design

has been a professor in Housing at the Faculty of Architecture and Fine Arts since 2006. She was educated as an architect from NTH in 1984 and received her dr.ing degree the same place in 1996 with the thesis “Dwellings and Culture. Norwegian one-family housing areas from the 1980s viewed in the light of the inhabitants’ notions of the ideal home”. The next 10 years she worked as a researcher at SINTEF and was involved in projects related to housing qualities and –ideals for various residential groups and social, cultural and architectural conditions for sustainable housing development. She spent the academic year 2010/2011 as a visiting researcher at the School of Architecture and Built Environment at the University of Westminster in London, UK.

Eli teaches housing design both on bachelor and master level. She is also supervisor for PhD candidates and is a member of the Faculty’s Research Committee.  At the moment she is heading two large research projects: One on the planning process of a carbon neutral neighbourhood at Brøset in Trondheim and the other on the effect of the physical environment on quality of life of asylum seekers.

Graduated in 1996 at NTNU, and working continuously in Trondheim as an architect, since 2005 at Svein Skibnes Arkitektkontor AS. Has been engaged as a critic the last 6 years, and as a guest teacher at NTNU the last 4 years, specializing in housing and complex buildings. Architect in charge for the new headquarter building for “Det Norske Oljeselskap” at Tronheim torg (former Hotel Residence), which received the Trondheim municipality Building Award for 2011.


// Linda Folgerø

is a Re­search Assistant at the de­partment of Architectural Design and Management working with housing courses at both bachelor and master degree.

She finished her master thesis with Ingrid Helleve in the summer of 2011, designing a therapy farm for people with mental sufferings in Hegra, Stjørdal. During the period of study she has worked as a board member in Arkitekthjelpen and participated in a workshop with Rintala/Eggertsson Architects at the Biennale 2010 in Venice.  


Complex Building Program

Jürgen Johner has been teaching at the NTNU since 2010 as professor for design of complex buildings programs. In 2011 he interrupted his engagement in Norway and was the inaugural Professor of Practice at the Syracuse University School of Architecture for the spring semester.

He founded Jürgen Johner Architekten in 2009, designing projects at different scales for both public and private clients. The firm's approach involves a detailed analysis with the goal of reaching the essence of the needs of each project, often leading to surprising and unexpected answers by persistent questioning of all the requirements. As a generalist, Johner understands his mission as professionally linking diverse disciplines with an emphasis on a high level of craft.


Johner grew up in Basel and studied architecture at the ETH in Zürich. His twentyfive years of experience include twelve years as an associate at Herzog & de Meuron where he was in charge of a number of internationally known buildings. He also established and directed the Hamburg office of Herzog & de Meuron for six years and led the architects and planning teams in the development and construction of the Elbe Philharmonic Hall.


// Luca Finocchiaro

After a Master in Building Engineering at the University of Catania in Italy, he moved to Scotland where he earned a Master of Architecture at the Glasgow School of Art, with a thesis in urban building. He lived in Barcelona twise, firstly as visiting researcher at the UPC (PhD on bioclimatic design) and secondly practising architecture. Today Luca lives in Trondheim, where he works at the NTNU as a researcher on Low-energy architecture.


// Sunniva Vold Huus

Sunniva Huus is a Re­search Assistant at the de­partment of Architectural Design and Management working with complex buildings courses at both bachelors and masters degree.

She finished her Masters thesis in the spring of 2011, designing and man­aging the construction of a pavillion at the Childrens hospital in Trondheim together with Maren S. Ødegård.  She has previously worked as a trainee at Lusparken Arkitekter and as a board member in Arkitekthjelpen. She has also participated in work with TYIN tegnes­tue on the Thai-Burmese border working on the Safe Haven Library project.


Metamorphosis

// Ole Møystad

Ole Møystad graduated from the Oslo School of Architecture. As part of his PhD studies he spent 1/2 year at the research department at the Centre for General Semiotics, Aarhus University, and received his PhD from AHO in 1994. He then took up a teaching and research position at the American University of Beirut for three years before he returned to Oslo and three years at the Architectural Academy.

I 2004 he became a post doc fellow and later adjunct professor at the NTNU. During the same period he was attached to ETSAB in Barcelona and the UAL in Lisbon as visiting lecturer in their PhD programs.
The last ten years he has also run an architectural practice. He is partner in STUDIO hp AS (www.studiohp.as). In parallell with his professional and academic activities he has written, published and lectured in Norway and internationally for 20 years.

As of 2011 he is a professor at the NTNU based in Metamorfosis, Centre for Real Estate and Facilities Management (www.metamorfose.ntnu.no).


// Lisbeth Sauarlia


Lisbet Sauarlia has a master of Philosophy in Social Anthropology from NTNU.  Until 2004 she worked at the Department of Social Anthropology at the same university. From 2004 to 2008 she lived in Shanghai where she was engaged in different research projects, lecturing and writing articles for scientific magazines.  Focus for research is Chinese culture, modernization/urbanization and architecture.  Since1992 she has in cooperation with Faculty of Architecture and Fine Arts given lectures and participated in research projects in China.  She is currently Associated Professor II at Department of Architectural Design, History and Technology, NTNU.

// Knut Ramstad 

M.Arch, Professor Knut Ramstad has throughout his career been emphasizing technology and technology application in architecture, engineering and project management. His work has stretchedfrom traditional architectural design to development (and implementation) of advanced digital tools,procedures and solutions for design, decision making, construction, communication, sale and facility management. As 3D Director in several high profile architectural developments, Ramstad hasdeveloped strategies and been in charge of 3D modeling, visualization and simulation. These procedures have been implemented in all project phases from programming through zoning, site plan,schematic design, detailed project and tendering phases, construction, marketing, sales and facility managementResponsibilities, products and services include 3D ​​BIM models, 3D graphics and animation, 3D simulation, real-time models, and presentation graphics, and in some cases also the development of display arenas. The projects include the Olympic venues in Lillehammer, Oslo MainAirport, the Telenor Fornebu project and the Tjuvholmen development.

Knut Ramstad got his Masters degree in Architecture at NTNU and has taught at The Oslo School of Architecture, The Norwegian Business School (BI) and at NTNU. Knut  is currently  running his own firm and works primarily in project management of the Tjuvholmen project in Oslo.

is currently working at Steinsvik Arkitektkontor AS in Tromsø and as a guest teacher at NTNU. He recently graduated the master-of-architecture-programme at NTNU with the master thesis titled "Looptopia Kirkenes (www.looptopia.no)" with Jostein Breines. The master thesis discuss important issues concerning sustainable development in rural areas and the relationship between regional planning and project design. The project focus on information design, linking important programs and presentations-of-data to a number of key projects in a regional strategy.

is currently working at Asplan Viak AS in Trondheim and as a guest teacher at NTNU. He recently graduated the master-of-architecture-programme at NTNU with the master thesis titled "Looptopia Kirkenes (www.looptopia.no)" with Mads Nermo. The master thesis discuss important issues concerning sustainable development in rural areas and the relationship between regional planning and project design. The project focus on information design, linking important programs and presentations-of-data to a number of key projects in a regional strategy. Jostein has also been working as a sustainability consultant for World Assosiation of Chefs Societies, in their "Feed the Planet"-project.
